Brett's BBQ Review (Encinitas Restaurants)

Pricing:
The single servings and sandwiches are all about $8.  The larger shared meal options are $15-24.

Distance:
Very close to the Encinitas Blvd/El Camino Real intersection.  5-10 minute drive for Encinitas residents.

Thoughts:
Corporate bbq places really don't do it for me.  In my mind, bbq is just one of those food groups that really need to come from a hole-in-the-wall dining establishment.  You have to have a secret sauce or something.

In all fairness, Brett's BBQ is slightly better than your standard fare corporate bbq.  The meat that I had was cooked well and didn't taste dry (often a problem with these places).  The shared meals are substantial enough for two that you will probably have leftovers.

While I had an enjoyable meal I was still left with nothing memorable.  Frankly, you can get ribs, chicken or pulled pork just about anywhere.  So if there's no special element to grab my attention, I'd just as soon pass this place up.

  1. This is in reference to Alain's previous post. I believe a person should know what they are writing about before the post there opinions on the internet. 1- Brett's BBQ is not a corperate BBQ restaurant, it's owned by two local guys. 2- Frankly I don't think you can find authintic hickory smoked BBQ anywhere. Brett's BBQ has been able to pull off what most have failed to do. Pull off the real southern BBQ in a region that knows very little about it. Who else is taking the time to smoke meats up to sixteen hours? This place rocks.

1- Brett's BBQ has been incorporated. A fairly elementary check up of the business on the internet will tell you this. Local or not, the owners are in business.

2- You say authentic and yet fail to mention what makes it so. There's absolutely nothing at Brett's that couldn't be purchased at a dozen other restaurants. I would say that most restaurants are capable of smoking their meats up to 16 hours or more. How else could you serve large quantities of people?
